B R Sharma (Author)

BR Sharma worked in Delhi University Laboratories after obtaining his BSc (Hons) in Chemistry from Panjab University. Selected as Director, CID Scientific Laboratory, Punjab, at an early age of 26, just before completion of his PhD degree, he headed various Forensic Science Institutions including the State FSLs, Punjab; Himachal Pradesh; UT CFSL (GOT, MHA), Chandigarh. He retired in September 1993 and now runs the National Institute of Forensic Science.

Dr Sharma had rigorous training in Forensics from New Scotland Yard Laboratory, London, Home Office Forensic Science Laboratories at Harrogate (England) and Glasgow (Scotland). A consultant to numerous Universities, educational boards, banks, insurance companies, government/semi-government/private organizations and individuals, including courts and police departments, he has also been a teacher in Forensics for about three decades as a secondary engagement and his assignments include Honorary Visiting Professor to Panjab University; Guest Faculty Member to Punjab University, Patiala; Dr HS Gaur University, Sagar; National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, Delhi; Central Detective Training School, numerous Zonal and Regional Staff Training Colleges of various Banks and Judicial Academies.

Dr Sharma has over four decades of experience dealing with various aspects of Forensic Ballistics including field, laboratory and court work. His services were/are sought across the country and even abroad. He has done extensive research work and has more than 100 papers/articles on Forensics including Forensic Ballistics published both in Indian as well as Foreign Journals. Forensic Ballistics has been his most favourite field of Forensics activity from the very day he joined the Forensic fraternity. He has literally examined thousands of Forensic Ballistics cases and appeared as an expert witness thereof in all categories of courts. He has, thus, come in close contact/encounters and discussed the subject threadbare with hosts of investigators, lawyers, judges, medico-legal experts and Forensics students/scientists; while being in the field (scenes of incidences), in the classrooms, in the courtrooms, in the post-mortem examination rooms, in the chambers of the judges/lawyers and in conference/meeting halls.
