A Ph. D. in Tribal Development, Dr. Ayan has about 12 years of experience in teaching, research and evaluation. Prior to joining HNLU earlier he worked with International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), Philippines and DFID. He went to Philippines for various training sessions on rural development issues. Awarded Eligibility for Lectureship (SLET) by West Bengal college service commission in 2005 and state scholarship for Ph.D study. He is also member of the Indian Sociological Society and Soil conservation society of India. Specialized in watershed development, tribal communities, gender, research methodology and rural development, his research interests centre on social development issues such as livelihoods, education, displacement, rehabilitation, water, environment and gender. At HNLU, he teaches Introduction to Sociology, Sociological Theories, Indian Society, Social Psychology ,Sociology of law and Sociology of Development.

Worked as National Social Scientist (India Representative) in International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) Philippines, the job profile includes Participatory Variety Trials (PVS) on rice in different agro-ecological zones of India so as to understand the food production in the rice zones of India and to help the poor farmers in terms of the food security and to help them with a new method of participatory research which will help the scientist(Plant Breeders) to bridge the gap between them and the farmers choice and it will lead to produce promising varieties of rice which can withstand natural calamities and can give the farmers good economic return and food security throughout the year.

Worked also as a Research Associate, with( KRIBHCO and DFID) in Madhya Pradesh (India) tribal Belt (Ratlam district), the job profile includes supervision of Management trainees from various Universities.
