Beyond the Indian Penal Code there are many statutes that provide for criminal prosecution of acts of commission and omission. Collectively these statutes are termed as Criminal Minor Acts and they cover a wide range of activities some of which can be seen as purely criminal such as Arms Act, Anti-Hijacking Act, Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, Official Secrets Act and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, etc. while others seek to punish social depravities like Sati and Dowry or deal with criminal activities in the financial and monetary sector, the environment, morality and health sector or deal with the armed forces, the police and prisons, etc. Many penal provisions are also to be found in several other Acts and need to be noticed. A large number cover what is usually termed as White Collar Crimes.
Thus, as many as 185 such wide ranging Central Acts containing penal provisions have been included to make this collection exhaustive and comprehensive. They have been fully updated with the latest amendments and many new statutes of recent origin such as Aadhaar Act also included.
Of particular significance is the inclusion of legislative history whereby the earlier provision that has been omitted or substituted is given in the footnotes.
